I recently realized, a few weeks or months back, that I engage in frequent arguments and talk excessively. Hearing comments like “Bass kar yaar Kabir, dimaag mat kha” (Stop Kabir, don’t eat my brain) “tu bahut bolta hai” (You speak a lot) from those close to me made me ponder its validity. While I’m not dismissing their observations, I acknowledged that incessant questioning could be irritating to others, and rightfully so.
In an effort to understand, I am experimenting with staying silent for short intervals. I decided to speak only when necessary – in response to significant questions or during collaborative efforts. I chose writing as an alternative when the urge to speak arose (initially challenging). This post is part of that endeavor.
My inquiries typically revolve around:
- Topics related to the books I’m currently reading.
- Noteworthy recent discussions.
- Matters pertaining to my business.
- Discussions about the food I’m consuming or planning to eat later.
- Others (misc. things which are actually the most exciting ones) for example: What is space? Why am I bad at drawing? What quality-of life (if there exists such a thing) does an ant have? Distance between moon and earth? Do I really need to go out and travel to feel better? Hypothetically, If we drill a hole exactly at my coordinates, and continue drilling through the core, where will we end up on the world map? Did I use ‘hypothetically’ correctly in the previous question? Is there even a thing such as correct or incorrect?
Let’s see where this new approach leads me. I might abandon it if it proves futile, or perhaps I’ll naturally evolve into a quieter individual, as I tend to be most of the time. One thing is for sure, I will continue asking questions till I get the answers.
