Is AI a threat? How are we going to deal with collective machines ruling us?

Don’t look at me hoping I have an answer. I don’t. I am sorry if you were here looking for one. But here is what I know about the problem (if there is one):

What is AI?

In short, Artificial Intelligence – Intelligence (problem solving) done by computers – or as Dr. Harari calls it ‘Alien Intelligence’, which is true, we do not know much about it, at least a lot of people reading this don’t (I don’t), but they will deny that in a blink of an eye. As compared to Humans, AI has infinite amount of data and information. What that means is it can take better and faster decisions than any of us combined. (Yes! 8 bn+ people combined). It can solve problems better than us.

Machines or I would say collective machines (which implies collective computing power i.e. Infinite power) in the early stage were more dexterous than humans and now it is becoming more and more intelligent. And I am talking about the near future 5, 10 years we will get dependent upon AI. We are already very much dependent on AI right now but we just don’t see it. Look at Social Media and how it is ruining us.

Is AI a threat?

To understand if AI is a threat or not I would recommend you to watch this video of Dr. Yuval Noah Harari first: https://youtu.be/GODf6yV-UHQ

Here is what I understand up till now:

  1. Banning AI is not a solution.
  2. Competing against AI is not possible because it’s powers are infinite. It will be disastrous. And the more we use it, the more it gets trained and get better.
  3. Understanding the consequences of AI before even planning to deploy more and more systems dependent upon AI will help to some extent.
  4. It is too big a gamble to let the scenarios play out, we need to understand it’s not the computer we are against it is the corporations which will use AI for their own benefits. That will be a problem.
  5. I am not sure if we need Institutions as Dr. Harari talks about in the video. Maybe. I do not know.

In summary, we can’t compete against it, and we can’t say “let it be, I am going to ignore it for now”. We can’t be ignorant.

Whatever the case may be, we need to think outside the box, the solution to the problem “Will AI take our Jobs? How are we going to deal with the fact that we are getting dependent on machines for simple day-to-day activities? Even after ruining our health, Ai only will take care of the healthcare systems. It will destroy us and fix us but we will become a slave to our own creation in no time.
